None of the issues relating to payment of pending wages to employees and reopening of the Panki-based unit could be resolved. Additional Labour Commissioner CML Maurya presided over the meeting and senior LML official RK Chaturvedi represented the management. LML Limited Mazdoor Union president JP Pandey represented employees.

Workers rejected out-rightly the managements’ contention that wages of employees had already been distributed as per the agreement with them.

All throughout the meeting, workers demanded issuing of recovery notice to the management for payment of pending dues. While the management remained adamant on its stand that wages had already been distributed to employees as per the agreement.

It may be pointed out that the LML Management does not recognise LML Limited Mazdoor Union as the official representative of employees. It had give due recognition of an employees union representation by a group of employees.

However, more than 90 percent of employees of LML are a part of LML Limited Mazdoor Union represented by JP Pandey.

On March 7 last, the LML Management declared a lock- out at its Panki unit due to financial crisis and since then employees had been demanding reopening of the plant and payment of pending wages.

Additional Labour Commissioner CML Maurya said, “Arguments put forward by both LML management and employees have been recorded. Some vital points are yet to be clarified therefore, any decision could only be taken after clearing of all ambiguities.”

Dejected about the result of the meeting, LML workers staged a demonstration at the office of Additional Labour Commissioner. Enraged employees held the labour officials responsible for undue delay in payment of pending dues of employees and reopening of the unit.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion Pandey accused the state government of doing precious little for the welfare of LML employees. “It is only due to the indifferent attitude of the state government that no decision could be taken for reopening of the plant,” said Pandey. He also raised a question on the integrity of LML management and accused it for dilly-dallying the issue.

It was also decided on the occasion that a demonstration would be staged on December 8 at the office of Additional Labour Commissioner.
