Peeved at the deteriorating law and order situation, a large number of local residents, including elected representatives of Bhatoli Kalan, on Monday blocked the vehicular traffic at Alembic chowk at Jharmajri near Barotiwala.
The slogan-shouting people led by Bhatoli Kalan panchayat pardhan Achhar Pal Kaushal and mahila mandal pardhan Sudesh Thakur alleged that spurt in incidents such as burglaries, rooberies and looting had created a sense of insecurity among the people in Baddi- Barotiwala- Nalagarh industrial belt.
Meanwhile, the police arrested a man who had escaped from the police custody around five months back. Raj Kumar, a resident of Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh was arrested from Juddi Khurd village and the police seized a country-made shot gun, eight live cartridges, a laptop, eight mobile phones and six SIM cards from him.
The police suspect that Raj Kumar could be behind the recent robbery at a jeweller shop at Basanti Bagh area of Baddi town. The robbers had decamped with jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh after shooting at the jeweller. Later, the jeweller had succumbed to his bullet injury at PGI, Chandigarh.
In a fresh incident, an unidentified youth made an attempt to snatch the jewellery of a woman when she had gone to collect fodder at Dasora Majra village this forenoon. The culprit fled away after the woman raised an alarm.
Shortly after this news spread, a large number of residents assembled at Alembic Chowk and blocked the traffic around noon. Later, the blockade was lifted after officials of the industry department intervened and assured the protesters that their demands would be taken up with the senior police officers.
