THE PIOUS festival of Lolarak Shashthi was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety here in Varanasi on Wednesday. People take bath in the Krim Kund and Lolark Kund for two main reasons — either to have a baby or to get rid of any sort of skin diseases — on this occasion.

A large number of devotees, including married couples from distant parts of Varanasi and its adjoining areas, took a holy dip at the ancient and historical ponds in Varanasi to mark the festival of Lolarak Shashthi.

Two historical ponds — Krim Kund situated at Baba Kinaram Ashram in Shivala area and Lolarak Kund in Bhadaini — were flooded with devotees. A fair like scene was evident there since the wee hours on Wednesday. Devotees started thronging these two historical ponds from Tuesday.

Devotees leave their clothes after taking a holy dip in these historical ponds. A number of clothes were piled up near the Lolark pond. After taking a bath in this religious pond the devotees offered puja items to Lolarak Baba.

Besides, several religious rituals were also performed by devotees near this pond. The Bhadaini based Lolarak pond has its own religious importance where a large number of devotees used to perform puja.

Similar scene was evident at the Krim Kund in Baba Kinaram Ashram, where devotees took a holy dip and left their clothes on the banks. The devotees also took a glimpse of chief priest of Kinaram Ashram, Baba Siddharth Gautam and got his blessings. Ashram also celebrated the incarnation day of Baba Kinaram today.

A large number of makeshift shops and big swings had also been set up around the Ashram.
