Police said Mukesh Giri shot himself in the chest using his service revolver at around 4AM inside the office.

"He belonged to SAF 29 battalion. He was on duty at SP office from 3AM to 6AM. At around 4-4.30AM a gunshot was heard. He was found dead on the spot. I was informed immediately," SP Lalit Shakyawar told ANI.

Shakyawar said Giri was among the three policemen who were on duty in his office.

"Till now there is no proof of why he committed suicide. His family members have been informed and we will talk to them about why this happened," he said.

Giri, who belonged to Seoni, had just come back from leave. His body has been sent for autopsy.
