Madonna will perform the first single from her new album, "Hung Up", at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon on November 3, organizers said Thursday.

The US pop superstar will join Coldplay, Green Day, Foo Fighters, The Black Eyed Peas and Robbie Williams on stage at the annual ceremony which will be broadcast to a potential worldwide audience of around one billion people.

It will be the first worldwide live TV performance of the single, the launch track for the singer's 10th album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor", which is set for release on November 14.

The 12th annual MTV Europe Music Awards will feature 29 separate awards, including 16 regional awards.

Coldplay, fronted by actress Gwyneth Paltrow's husband Chris Martin, and Gorillaz lead the way in nominations, with five each.

Madonna last appeared at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2000 in Stockholm, where she won the Best Dance and Best Female categories.
