Talk to Madhuri Dixit Nene and her tinkling laughter reverberates even over the phone. The dhak-dhak girl of the ’90s is back in her hometown Mumbai, after almost two years.

"I am here after a long time, and it feels great to be back," says the seasoned actress. "At first glance, Mumbai with all its multiplexes and malls, looked like a new place to me. But once I ventured into the city, I found that nothing had changed. The city’s spirit is intact, and so are the traffic jams."

Madhuri candidly admits that she misses being part of the profession she so loved, but adds that her current occupation of a mother, is even more gratifying. "Oh! being a mother is such an engaging job," she says, while adding, "handling my two sons is like handling two home-productions. And I am enjoying every bit of it. It’s a special feeling and certainly the most gratifying one."

While her sons - Arin, 3 and Ryan, 1- keep her busy back in America, in Mumbai she has big plans of meeting up and chilling with her pals and family. "With no work on my mind, I am here to relax and catch up with my friends and family," she says.

Madhuri  is totally devoted to bringing up her two kids. She’s still open to good offers but has denied any new project.

Ask her about her recent performance at an awards ceremony and she says, "I was very nervous about dancing on stage. The last time I danced was on

. Initially, I refused but then Rikku

ji

(her long-time business manager) and others managed to convince me." And how did her sons react to a dancing mum?

"They had gone to bed by the time the performance was aired. Though they didn’t get to see me performing on stage but when I returned home, dressed in the same costume, my elder son teased me by pulling my

, while the younger one refused to recognise me altogether."

While her onstage act got its due share of appreciation, Madhuri denies rumours about signing any new project. "I will pick and choose and go for the best option," the actress says. "The project should be worth its while for me to forgo my time with my kids and family," she asserts.

But the actress with the million dollar smile confirms she would return for sure. "I will work again but it would at the most be a project or two a year," says Madhuri.
