"Huge amount of money" was spent on the construction, he alleged.

Addressing a press conference here, Thakre also demanded that BJP president Nitin Gadkari should resign on "moral grounds", and face an impartial probe with regard to his financial affairs.

"Serious allegations have been made against Gadkari...(BJP) MP and legal luminary Ram Jethmalani has publicly demanded his resignation and asked him to face a thorough probe," the Congress leader said.

As to Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's diatribe against the Gandhi family at his party's Dussehra rally in Mumbai on Wednesday, Thakre said the Sena patriarch wanted to derive political mileage, and hand over the reins of the party to his son, Uddhav Thackeray.
