Mahato rides to jail in chopper
Bapi Mahato, the prime accused in Jnaneswari Express mishap case, was brought from Jamshedpur to Midnapore (140 km) by helicopter on Monday.

Bapi Mahato, the prime accused in Jnaneswari Express mishap case, was brought from Jamshedpur to Midnapore (140 km) by helicopter on Monday.
The route is dotted with Maoist strongholds and the police didn’t want to risk transporting Mahato by road. This is the only instance where a person accused of ultra-Left activities has been flown by helicopter.
The same chopper also brought Bimal Mahato, Bapi’s relative who is accused of sheltering him.
