Major air crashes since 2000

Following is a list of major air crashes around the world since 2000.

February 3, 2005: Kam Air 737-200; near Kabul, Afghanistan. The aircraft crashed in mountainous terrain, killing all eight crew members and 96 passengers.

January 3, 2004: Flash Airlines 737-300; near Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The aircraft crashed into the Red Sea. All 135 passengers and 13 crew members were killed.

December 25, 2003: Union des Transports Africains (UTA) 727-200; near Cotonou, Benin. The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff, 140 people were killed.

July 8, 2003: Sudan Airways 737-200C; near Port Sudan, Sudan. The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. All 11 crew members and 105 passengers were killed.

March 6, 2003: Air Algérie 737-200; near Tamanrasset, Algeria. The aircraft reportedly caught fire during takeoff. Five of the six crew members and all 97 passengers were killed.

May 25, 2002: China Airlines 747-200; near the Penghu Islands, Taiwan. The flight was carrying 19 crew members and 206 passengers.

May 7, 2002: China Northern MD82; near Dalian, China. All nine crew members and 103 passengers were killed.

May 4, 2002: EAS Airlines BAC111; Lagos, Nigeria. The aircraft crashed into a residential area. 145 people were killed, including 70 on the ground.

April 15, 2002: Air China 767-300ER; near Pusan, South Korea. The aircraft crashed into a residential area near the airport. The flight was carrying 11 crew members and 155 passengers.

February 12, 2002: Iran Air Tours Tu 154; Sefid Kouh mountains outside Khorramabad, Iran. All fifteen crew members and 105 passengers were killed.

November 12, 2001: American Airlines Flight 587 lost part of its tail and plummeted into a New York City neighbourhood, killing 265 people.

September 11, 2001: An American Airlines flight and a United flight en route to Los Angeles from Boston crash into the World Trade Center after being hijacked; around 3,000 dead and missing, including 157 on planes.

September 11, 2001: American Flight 77 en route from Washington's Dulles International Airport to Los Angeles is hijacked and crashes into the Pentagon; 189 dead and missing, including 64 on plane.

September 11, 2001: United Airlines Flight 93 en route from Newark, NJ, to San Francisco is hijacked and crashes near Pittsburgh; 44 killed.

October 31, 2000: Singapore Airlines jumbo jet slams into an object before takeoff for Los Angeles and bursts into flames; 81 killed.

July 25, 2000: Air France Concorde headed to New York crashes into hotel outside Paris shortly after takeoff; 113 killed.

July 17, 2000: Alliance Air Boeing 737-200 crashes into houses during second landing attempt at Patna, India; 51 killed.

April 19, 2000: Air Philippines flight from Manila crashes on approach to Davao, Philippines; 131 killed.

January 31, 2000: Alaska Airlines Flight 261 plunges into ocean off Southern California on flight from Mexico to San Francisco; 88 killed.

January 30, 2000: Kenya Airways A-310 crashes into Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to Lagos, Nigeria; 169 killed.
