A MAJOR offensive is apparently under way against dacoit Gadaria gang on the borders of this district. Police forces led by IG Police Sanjay Rana and other senior officers including DIGs and SPs of the adjoining districts entered forests from various sides last night to surround the gang whose presence was reported in the Mohana area.

DIG Gwalior Sanjay Mane, DIG Chambal Arun Pratap Singh, SP Morena Ravi Kumar Gupta, SP Gwalior Manmeet Singh Narang and SP Shivpuri Roop Singh Meena were involved in the operation.

It was learnt that the gang was camping in Mohana for long and was preparing to shift to another place. The informer tipped off the senior police officers on the Wednesday night that the Gadaria gang was camping in Mohana and Pohari forest and was preparing to shift to the Shivpuri forest. The police officers immediately got engaged in exercise to surround him.

The drive against Gadaria has begun after eight hostages were released recently by the gang. Further details about the progress of the operation were awaited and the police sources were tight-lipped.

Earlier on Wednesday night, the police surrounded the gang of Wakila Gurjar and, after an encounter, rescued 11 labourers kidnapped by the gang on May 15.

However, the gang managed to flee under the cover of darkness. Wakila has escaped in the police encounters twice in the last two years. The than SP Morena Rajesh Gupta had formed a plan in the year 2004 to eliminate the Wakila gang in Kasam Khera forest under Sumavali police station. But the gang fled. Again, on May 17, the gang fled before the arrival of police force.
