Man gets 7-year term for rape

THE COURT of additional district and sessions judge Rajiv Bhatjiwale today sentenced one Raju Jatav to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 on charges of raping a married woman. The victim was going to her sister-in-law’s house when Raju caught hold of her and raped her on September 16, 2000.

The court, holding Raju guilty of a crime under Section 376 of the IPC sentenced him to seven years imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000. Of the amount, Rs 4,000 would be given to the victim as compensation.

Skeleton found: A skeleton was found in the Upper Lake near Nathu Barkheda in Ratibad area on Wednesday. The herdsmen spotted the body and the police were subsequently informed. The deceased is a male. Police surmise that either the person was killed and thrown in the water or his relatives might not have carried out the last rites and thrown the body in water.

The cause of death could be ascertained only after post-mortem. Investigations are on in the case.
