The victim was identified by Friday morning as 32-year-old Prashant, police said, adding he was attacked in a robbery bid.

This is the fourth major incident of roadside robbery at gunpoint in one week in the Capital. Attackers in three of these incidents are still at large.

Prashant hails from West Bengal and works as a craftsman with a Gandhi Nagar-based jeweller. The police confirmed that Prashant was carrying a bagful of jewellery, which is now missing.

The two shooters were unidentified till late Friday evening, said an officer, adding that the two seems to have followed Prashant from the shop.

As Prashant entered the rather desolated service lane near the metro station, the attackers pulled by him, said an officer.

“He was on his way to deliver some jewellery to a customer when the attackers chased him down. One of them shot him on the service lane of the metro station and took away his bag,” said an officer.

Prashant was shot in the chest. Bystanders took him to a hospital where was admitted in the ICU till late night, when he died.
