Manipur varsity Chancellor to institute probe into postings

Probe will be ordered into alleged irregularities in the appointment of the Director, Audio Video Research Studies.

The Governor of Manipur and Chancellor of Manipur University, SS Sidhu, have agreed to institute a probe into alleged irregularities in the appointment of the Director, Audio Video Research Studies.

"Such an inquiry will make the activities of the university more transparent," a release from the Chancellor's office said.

The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) had, in a memorandum submitted to Sidhu, demanded a probe into the alleged irregularities.

Both the university's Vice Chancellor and the Registrar had been abducted by a militant outfit last month and were later released with bullet wounds, as "punishment", the militants said, for irregularities committed in the appointment of the Director.
