Maoist guerrillas gun down seven in Bihar

A local JD(U) leader and six of his supporters were gunned down by CPI (Maoist) guerrillas in Bihar's Aurangabad district.

A local JD(U) leader and six of his supporters were gunned down by CPI (Maoist) guerrillas in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Monday night, police said.

Heavily armed Naxalites ambushed the convoy of Madanpur block JD(U) president Ashok Singh near Devjada village in the district around 10 PM When he was returning after campaigning for zila parishad election. Singh was a candidate in the election.

The underground rebels sprayed bullets at Singh's vehicle leading to a fierce exchange of fire for about an hour and a half in which the seven were killed. The number of injured was not known.

The Naxalites also set ablaze the vehicle of Singh, who was currently the mukhiya (panchayat head) of Ghodadihri panchayat.

The CPI (Maoist) have given a call for boycott of elections to three-tier panchayati raj bodies scheduled next month.

Senior civil and police officials of the district have rushed to site of the incident.
