Maoists kill CPI(M) leader in West Bengal

Maoist extremistson Saturdayshot dead a district level leader of the CPI(M) at Bhomragarh in this district, official sources said.
At least 45 Maoists attacked the residence of former zilla sabhadhipati Rabindranath Kar and first exploded bombs at the entrance of the house in the village in Bandwan police station area, District Magistrate Mukul Kanti Sarkar said.
The extremists then forced themselves into the house and shot Kar, he added.
Instead of succumbing, Kar came out of the house looking for his guard who was sleeping in an adjacent house. At this point, his wife also came out holding his husband.
After walking some distance, Kar slumped to the ground. The Maoists then set the house on fire and Kar was burnt to death. The DM was unable to confirm if his wife also was burnt alive.
The Maoists escaped into dense jungles after carrying out their operation.
A large police force, led by additional superintendent of police Tapas Ranjan Ghose, has camped at the village and is searching the area.
