Kishore Rana was abducted from Ratanjori village in Giridih district on Wednesday. He was later shot dead and his body was found on the outskirts of the village on Thursday morning, police said.

A former member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), Rana left the party after a stint in prison.

"It seems that Maoists suspected Rana of being a police informer. A pamphlet found near his body shows he was killed because of that," said a police officer.

More than 90 people have been killed in Jharkhand in the last five years on charges of being police spies.
