A district court on Saturday framed charges against controversial independent legislator Mukhtar Ansari and 32 others accused in connection with last year's communal riots in the town during Dussehra festivals.

District and sessions judge SK Tripathi while framing charges fixed May 25 next for further hearing of the matter.

The police had earlier filed the chargesheet against the accused persons charging them under different sections of the IPC but section 153 A (instigating riots) was missing from the chargesheet.

The investigating officer Rajendra Singh later said in Mau that the mandatory permission of the government was sought for charging the accused with instigating riots but the same was not granted.

As many as 20 people were killed and several others injured in the communal clashes in the town during Dussehra festival last year.
