Mechanism to prevent entry of Munnabhais

ASPIRANT MUNNABHAIS beware before contemplating to bet this year on any 1st year MBBS student for appearing in CPMT-06 on your behalf. If the director general medical education is to be believed, from now onwards the first year medicos in all the seven medical colleges will be kept engaged in academic activities on the day the CPMT-06 examination is to be held. If any of them remains absent from the college then stern action will be taken.

Fake admissions in medical colleges would have been averted, had the authorities taken suggestive words of a member present in the meeting held over organising the CPMT nearly one year back.

Ironically, the member’s suggestion to make the attendance of all 1st year medicos compulsory on the day of CPMT, fake medicos could have been debarred in leniently making a way to prestigious and hard-earned medical seat in medical colleges.

Strangely, a source in Jawahar Bhavan said that the most ‘notorious’ medical college and the soft target in getting admission through illegitimate means, the KGMU had topped the list and it would be under tight vigil by the higher authorities.

Perhaps, taking a lesson from past mistakes, this year CPMT organising university will be provided state-of-the-art impregnable technical mechanism to ascertain the identity of the appearing candidates in the medical entrance exam of the State.

For this, the government is taking help from the National Informatics Centre, Lucknow to set up six on-line counselling centres across the State and the BSNL has been asked for connectivity.

Higher authorities have taken this step to make the presence of selected candidates mandatory in counselling, even if they are sick they could appear in the counselling in the nearest centre to their home. No more blood relations will be allowed to appear in the counselling on behalf of sick candidates.

DGME Dr Kamal Sahani, reacting sharply over fake admissions in CPMT said, “This time we will give written orders to the heads of all the seven medical colleges to ensure that a mandatory test for 1st year medicos will be kept on the day of CPMT.” She also said, “It will be the medical college administration’s responsibility to ensure 100 per cent attendance of 1st year medicos to prevent fake entries to medical colleges.

Though, for the year 2006-07 medical colleges have been allocated grant of Rs 37 crore against 62 crore of the previous year, but immediately after the recruitment for vacant teaching posts in medical colleges, emphasis will be on starting super specialty courses in all seven medical colleges in the State, asserted the DGME.

Commenting on unethical entries in medical colleges, Dr SK Katiyar, principal GSVM Medical College, said, “Those studying in medical coaching are less suspected to remain absent in CPMT, but in case the first year medicos do not provide ample help to general category candidates, they can fetch sufficient marks to qualify the medical entrance test in the reserved category.”

Moreover, Dr Katiyar said that last year he had made attendance compulsory in GSVM Medical College on the day of CPMT and it yielded positive results.
