Medical tourism centre to be set up in BHU

IN A bid to promote medical tourism in Uttar Pradesh, the Ayurveda Faculty of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in collaboration with State Government would set up a centre for medical tourism in BHU soon.

IN A bid to promote medical tourism in Uttar Pradesh, the Ayurveda Faculty of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in collaboration with State Government would set up a centre for medical tourism in BHU soon.

Talking to media persons on Friday, dean of Ayurveda faculty, Prof. Manjari Dwivedi said that the tourism department of State government had sanctioned Rs 3.25 crore for setting up a centre of ayurveda and yoga in BHU to promote medical tourism.

“Foreign tourists suffering from various ailments would be treated through Ayurveda (Panch-Karma) and yoga,” she said, adding the construction of this proposed centre would start soon.

“Besides, construction of a 125-bedded hospital for traditional Indian system of medicine would be set up in BHU soon,” she said adding Rs 3.5 crore had been earmarked for it.

She said this Ayurveda hospital would house almost all medical facilities.
Prof. Dwivedi said a proposal to set up six more departments in Ayurveda faculty was pending for last five years. She expressed hope that these departments would soon be functional in Ayurveda faculty.

Commenting over the recent visit of a delegation of Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), she said that CCIM delegation was fully satisfied with the research and development activities being carried out at Ayurveda faculty in BHU.

She informed that medicinal plants were being cultivated on 100-acre land in South Campus of BHU at Barkacha in Mizapur district, which will be used for treatment of patients in BHU.

“Grants of around Rs 7.50 crore have been received from various sources by Ayurveda faculty, which will be used for research and development works in a planned manner,” she said.
