Medicos dig in their heels

Services at Sir Sunderlal Hospital (BHU) remained affected as the medicos’ indefinite strike entered its sixth day.
Many patients have shifted to private clinics in areas near the BHU. Both the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the SS Hospital and the parallel OPD of the striking medicos observed the weekly closure on Sunday.
Medical students and Institute of Technology students formed a human chain on the IMS premises to register their protest against the Union Government’s proposal to enhance quota from the existing 22 per cent to 49.5 per cent in Central Government-funded higher academic institutes across the country. Medicos launched a massive public awareness drive at Assi Ghat.
Undergraduate and postgraduate medical students of IMS-BHU said seats should be reserved on economic criteria and not on the basis of caste.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) members extended their support to the nationwide agitation. Volunteers of various social organisations took out a peace march on Saturday evening and handed over a charter of their demands to the divisional commissioner.

THE STUDENTS of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College distributed anti-quota pamphlets at all the CPMT examination centres on Sunday.
The students also requested the candidates who came to take the CPMT to collect the pamphlets at MLN Medical College and participate in the ‘Jan Chetna’ rally on Monday. “The CPMT exam was an opportunity to make over ten thousand students understand the evils of quota system.
