Meghalaya Secondary Board to be restructured
The inquiry into the Meghalaya Board of School Education's alleged errors in the tabulation of marks in this year's board examination is complete.
The inquiry into the Meghalaya Board of School Education's (MBOSE) alleged errors in the tabulation of marks in this year's board examination is complete and the report will now be submitted soon, government sources have confirmed. Steps were also being taken to strengthen and reorganise the board to make it more efficient, the sources said.

Referring to the agitation by various organisations, including the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) and the Garo Hills Citizens Forum (GHCF), and 20 other NGOs on Tuesday, the sources said that while MBOSE officials found have erred in the allotment of marks would not be spared, the government would also take stringent measures against students who had resorted to violence during Tuesday's protests. The GHCF, for its part has warned the Government that if it did not take appropriate action, the agitation would stepped up, says a Newmai News Agency report.
The Education Department had constituted a committee headed by P Kharkongor, commissioner of Garo Hills to look into the alleged lapses. Meghalaya Governor MM Jacob has meanwhile expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of the MBOSE. The board, he said was "disorganised" and that it "needs to be restructured at any cost so that students' careers are not jeopardised". The governor, however, urged the student community to maintain peace. "Rather than solve the problem, violence will only hamper their studies," he said.
