High Commissioner Nirupama Rao had invited the team to India House for the flag-hoisting Tuesday morning. But following the blast on Monday that killed seven people, the trip was called off, said team manager Sanjay Jagdale.

"We were invited but later told the trip was off," said Jagdale.

The function, however, went ahead as heavy rains gave way to bright sunshine.

Jagdale said the programme was cancelled because the Indian mission would have had to arrange for extra security. This was not possible for the authorities as the Sri Lankan Police were required for the triangular series as well as the South Asian Federation Games that are being held concurrently.
