Mercury registers season's hottest day
The maximum temperature on Friday could be in the range of 41 to 42 degrees C, Met officials said.

Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in the city and neighbourhood on Thursday, with the mercury registering a record high of 40.7 degree Celius (105 deg. F) for the summer season that began on March 1.
The weather office in New Delhi has predicted hotter days ahead. The maximum temperature on Friday could be in the range of 41 to 42 degrees C, Met officials said.
It was in May 23, 1980 that the weather office recorded 43.6 deg C in Nungambakkam.
On May 21 1910, suburban Meenambakkam recorded a temperature of 45 deg C, it said.
The month of May is the hottest period as far as this metropolis is concerned.
From May 4 to 28, 2006, the 'khatri' (peak summer) period, the city will experience intense heat wave conditions.
