MGKV gets new acting V-C

THE OUTGOING Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV), Prof Surendra Singh handed over charge to the newly appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Bhaskar Dev Mishra this morning.

The tenure of Prof Surendra Singh as V-C ended on Friday. As per the directive of the UP Governor, Head of the Department of Psychology in MGKV Prof Mishra has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the varsity.

Prof Singh handed over charge to Prof Mishra in a simple ceremony in the V-C’s office, though several functions were organised in the varsity for farewell of Prof Singh.

The teachers’ association of the university organised a farewell party for the outgoing V-C. The teachers and student leaders garlanded the outgoing V-C on the occasion.

Another farewell party was organised under the auspices of Acharyakool Institute today. Eminent literary personality Dr Bachchan Singh presided over the function while visiting professor of Unesco Vaidyanath Sarswati was the chief guest.

All the speakers praised the outstanding work of the outgoing VC Prof Surendra Singh in the development of MGKV. Prof Singh said that the country was facing a cultural crisis and the time had come to follow the path of Mahatma Gandhi to protect the cultural heritage of the country.    

Meanwhile, talking to Hindustan Times after taking charge as V-C, Prof Mishra said, “Since I am a teacher of psychology department, I know how to utilise human resources in development work”.

He said that this post was a challenge to him but a person of strong will power, character and moral values could easily tackle any problem.
