The aircraft, involved in an air-to-ground live firing exercise, apparently developed a technical snag and crashed, the spokesman said.
No loss of life or property has been reported on the ground, he said, adding a court of inquiry has been ordered by the IAF to investigate the matter.
This is the first MiG 21 crash this year. In the last one decade, the IAF witnessed the lowest number of fighter aircraft crashes in 2005.
