This was a very well thought through collection that provides exactly what it claims: comfortable easy to wear functional business wear for the modern urban woman.
In cool, sophisticated colours the range offered ensembles that can be worn either as separates or suits. The concept was western, but traditional Indian silhouettes - kurtis, achkans, or design details - Nehru collared jackets, appliqué gave the clothes an essentially Indian look, that make it perfect for the Indian metro woman of today. But these clothes would not go amiss in a western boardroom, either.
There were some nice design details that would make Bhargava's woman stand out from the crowd in the executive dinning room. Trousers were wider then most we have seen this week, with deep turn-ups. The culottes were innovatively cut with asymmetric hems plunging downwards at the out seam.
To take this young corporate executive out to a formal evening, Bhargava returned to purer India silhouettes. Georgette achkans were teamed with cowl trousers that draped beautifully. A georgette sari was given a very contemporary urban twist with denim highlights.
A very saleable range.
Niki Mahajan makes boob tubes look goodThe first line out was something of a departure for Mahajan who is known for her magical colour sensibility. This was a neutral palette of off whites and creams in western and fusion silhouettes.
We saw a Prada inspired ruched and bound georgette top teamed with a long straight skirt with golden edged mirror work on the body that then fell straight plain to the ankles.
Shirring, and mirror work were the design leitmotifs that ran through this capsule. Boob tubes appeared over trousers and skirts, Skirts were long.
As the show went on, the typical Mahajan colour sensibility kicked into gear. A glorious kaleidoscope of pink, yellow, green, and turquoise were the keynotes of the last part of Mahajan's show.
Silhouettes veered more towards Indian, but many pieces would look great in the Mediterranean sun. Boob tubes continued in third last range, along with long straight skirts, gently flared lehengas, and wide diaphanous pants. Notable pieces were a multi coloured striped boob tube and an equally colourful lehenga (not worn together).
