"I have written many letters to the municipal commissioner and the concerned departments. However, they have not been taken seriously. Therefore I have been forced to go on this fast," Gaikwad said.

Congress and Nationalist Congress Party workers have also joined Gaikwad in his protest.

Sachin Pote, Congress group leader, KDMC, said, "Apart from potholes, water scarcity is also a major issue. The residents of Waldhuni have been facing an acute shortage."

Municipal commissioner, Ramnath Sonawane, however, has urged Gaikwad to end his fast. "The potholes on all major and minor roads will be

filled by December-end and we will give Gaikwad a full status report," Sonawane said.
