The visit is part of a week-long industrial tour, for which, the contingent of 26 budding managers, including eight girls, will leave for Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, under the supervision of Dr Tripti Singh on January 9.

The industrial tour, being undertaken by the students, is part of the curriculum of their Masters in Management Studies course.

Throwing light over the industrial tour, Head of MNNIT's School of Management Studies, Prof PR Agarwal said that such industrial study tours had their own importance as students got the opportunity of seeing the practical implementation of the knowledge and managerial philosophies that had been imparted to them in their classroom as well as during their surveys and projects.

He said that the managers-in-making would study the oragnisational set-up of noted public sector organisations like Tamil Nadu Petro Products Limited, Indian Rail Coach Factory, Tirumala Trust, Tirupati and the famous retail outlet Spencer Mall.

The students will analyse the current Management Information System (MIS), distribution channels and HR policies being followed by these organisations. "The industrial tour has been designed in a such a manner that students from different specialised fields like marketing, human resource management, finance and system management, will have equal opportunities to grasp the practical knowledge during the visit," Prof Agarwal added.

"The contingent will reach Chennai on January 11 and will visit Tamil Petro Products where they are scheduled to meet the higher officials of the company.

They will also visit the plant and see the production unit of the company," said Dr Tripti Singh, tour in-charge. She said that the students would be required to later deliver a presentation on the industrial tour.

The second day of the tour is slated for the industrial visit to Indian Rail Coach Factory, Chennai. Chennai has the unique distinction of housing one of the biggest Rail coach factories of the country which is also celebrating its 50th year of establishment in January, 2006.

Apart from the studying the managerial practices, the itinerary of the students also contains a visit to the famous Marina Beach, Mahabalipuram and the Tirupati temple of Lord Balaji. The students are scheduled to view Tirupati Temple on January 15 where they will also meet the office-bearers of Tirumala Trust for understanding the organisational practices being followed by the trust.

It is worthy to be mentioned that Tirumala trust is one of the biggest and richest trusts of India .

"We have a keen desire to see the society and the people of southern belt and to interact with them. It will be a great opportunity for us to come face to face with a different culture which is an integral part of our nation," said student co-ordinator Annirudh Chaterjee. He informed that the preparation for the industrial tour had started in December 2005 itself. "The preparations included the interaction and negotiations with factories to be visited, the site to be viewed besides collecting information about the much-needed logistics, transportation, hotels and others necessary arrangements for the tour.

The students are schduled to return to Allahabad by January 16.
