Moderate intensity earthquake shakes Andaman and Nicobar Islands

A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.4 hit the Andaman Island region around 2:45pm on Friday.

A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.4 hit the Andaman Island region around 2:45pm on Friday.

The depth of the earthquake was measured as 10 km, Indian Meteorological Department said in a statement. No reports of damage to properties or life have been received so far, it said.

The earthquake comes within a week of the high intensity earthquake that hit Nepal and adjoining areas including parts of India last Saturday.
