Modi ridicules Sonia
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday ridiculed Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was here for campaigning, for an alleged faux pas in reading out from a speech to criticise his government on an irrigation project.
Modi said Gandhi had read out her speech at Jetpur in Saurashtra, which was meant to be read out at Kheralu in North Gujarat.
"Her (Sonia Gandhi)'s speeches are written speech and she just reads them out," Modi said.
Referring to her comments on 'Sujlam Suflam Project' in Jetpur town of Saurashtra, Modi alleged it seems that Gandhi by mistake had read out speech meant for Kheralu in Jetpur. The Sujlam Suflam project is for North Gujarat and not Saurashtra, he said.
"Do you (Sonia) know what is Sujlam Suflam project ? If you had asked the farmers of Kheralu instead of Jetpur whether they received water in their field or not, then the people here would have opened your eyes," Modi said.
Earlier in the day speaking at Jetpur, Gandhi targeted Modi by raising many issues one of which was of Sujlam Suflam.
"Water has not reached farmers in Sujlam Suflam Yojna but nobody knows where the money of the project has gone. Do you know ?" the Congress President asked the people.
