Mother behind slitting throats of two kids, self in Kashmir: police
In a startling revelation, the Jammu and Kashmir police said it sees the hand of the 40-year-old mother behind the killing of two kids, who were found dead with throats slit on Wednesday this week in Srinagar’s Bemina locality.
“During the investigations, all evidences were pointing fingers at the mother. She has emerged as the prime suspect,” said Srinagar’s senior superintendent of police Ashiq Hussain Bukhari on Saturday.
Two kids --- Aaliya Iftikhar (5) and Muhammad Hashim (3) --- were found slaughtered by a sharp edged weapon inside their house on Wednesday.
The incident had sent shock waves in Kashmir valley for being the first such criminal act where kids’ throats were mercilessly slit.
Political leaders and civil society members had condemned the killings and sought a thorough investigation in the case.
Mother Naseema (40), the prime accused according to the police, was also found in a pool of blood, while the father, Molvi Muhammad Iftikhar Lone, a local priest, had gone for leading the pre-dawn prayers on the fateful day.
“We are waiting for the forensic science laboratory report. However, prima facie evidences indicate the involvement of the mother,” said the SSP.
The police have not been able to match the fingerprints on the weapon of crime found at the spot with anyone so far.
“One thing is clear, there’s no involvement of outsiders in the murder as all clues point towards her alone,” said the police officer.
The police claim that the accused, a resident of Gurez, was in touch with some tantric. “She used to say that she was fed up with her life and was supposed to meet some faqir,” he said.
Refuting to comment on the mental health of the woman, Bukhari said, “When she regained her consciousness in the hospital, she tried to kill herself again.”
