Move to reduce seats protested

MEMBERS OF the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) in Allahabad University held a meeting at the union hall on Tuesday to discuss their demands. The students demanded that the authorities should not reduce the number seats in graduate and post- graduate courses and not cancel the reservation for backward classes. SCS leader Sanjay Singh charged the varsity authorities with working at the whims of the Central government and trying to restrain the backward candidates from obtaining higher education and employment.

He said after attaining the Central status, the university neglected the backward and Dalit students and so intended to cancel the reservation for the backward students.Those present on the occasion were Dr Satiram Yadav, Anand Singh, Pinto Singh, Sanju Yadav and others.

Meanwhile, the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) AU unit president Rajvendra Singh addressed a meeting to discuss the expected reduction in the number of seats of graduate and post graduate courses in the AU.

The members threatened to protest any such decision taken by the varsity. He said that a delegation of AIDSO would meet AU vice-chancellor Prof RG Harshe in this regard.

Law Department: Head of AU Law department Prof HN Tiwari has informed the LLM Part-I students of 2004-05 session that the examination scheduled on March 29 has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons. The examination will be held on April 10 from 2:30 to 5:30 pm at the department.
