The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the Election Commission to dispose of various complaints made by a Non-Government Organisation regarding its alleged inaction for non-implementation of the Commission's order for stopping free power supply to farmers in the state.

After hearing counsels for the state electricity board (MPSEB) and EC, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice K Raja Ratnam and Justice Dipak Mishra disposed of the Public Interest Litigation filed by President of Nagrik Upbhokta Margdarshak Manch P G Nazpandey.

"Election Commission is an independent body and it can take its own decision," the judges observed and ordered it to dispose of the complaints filed by Nazpandey.

On November 22, Nazpandey had filed the PIL seeking "necessary directions" to Election Commission on the complaints filed by him regarding alleged violations of the Commission's order.

The petitioner had earlier challenged Madhya Pradesh government's pre-assembly poll sops of free power connection to small farmers and waiving of their electricity bills.
