HOST MADHYA Pradesh defeated stronghold Punjab 3-2 in a thrilling match to strengthen its position in the 52nd National School Hockey tournament being played in the City on Wednesday.
Sajid scored two goals and Prince scored one goal to help their team advance in the tournament. MP coach Kamal Karosiya said that his team performed well to win the match and expressed confidence of finding a couple of MP players in the national team.
The results of the other matches are: KVS lost to Delhi 1-4, Chhattisgarh routed Tripura 16-0, Gujarat and Uttarakhand match ended in goal less draw, Kerala lost to Uttar Pradesh 0-4, Jharkhand beat Tamil Nadu 4-1.
In the girls event: Rajasthan beat Tamil Nadu 2-0, Tripura beat Tamil Nadu 3-0, Punjab beat Chhattisgarh 4-0, Chandigarh beat Uttranchal 7-0, Punjab beat Maharashtra 5-0 and Chhattisgarh beat Andhra Pradesh 2-0.
The closing ceremony of the 52nd National School Hockey Tournament will be held on February 2 at Vaishnav Stadium at 11.30 am. MP Sumitra Mahajan will be the chief guest and MLA Laxmansingh Gaud will preside over the function.
