HT had published a report on September 28 based on the study of an NGO that showed that children were subject to rampant exploitation because of tourism activities, both domestic and foreign.

Especially at Khajuraho, children were reported to have been subject to sexual exploitation. The study was conducted by NGOs Vikas Samvad (Bhopal) and Bengaluru-based Equitable Tourism Options (EQUATIONS) with support of Child Rights and You (CRY).

Taking cognizance of the report, the MPHRC has issued notices to the SPs of Chhatarpur (where Khajuraho falls) and Ujjain on Thursday, asking them to give detailed reports on all the points mentioned in the HT report within two weeks. Also, the inspector generals of police (IGs) of Sagar range (for Chhatarpur district) and Ujjain have been asked to give their reports in the matter.
