Talking to reporters here on Sunday, State BJP spokesman Hriday Narain Dixit alleged there were various loopholes in the chargesheet so that nothing could be proved against the independent Mau legislator, who had been supporting the Mulayam Government.

The electronic media had shown Ansari moving freely with his armed supporters in the curfew-bound areas of Mau, Dixit added.

The Government had refused to accept the BJP demand for a CBI probe into the ‘Mau massacre’ as it wanted to protect the legislator, despite his clear role in engineering riots and inciting people during communal trouble, the BJP leader alleged.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had given a clean chit to Ansari even before “the so- called inquiry” by an IAS officer, Dixit said, adding that the probe was an eyewash.

Moreover, an IPS officer went to Mau on his own to conduct an inquiry and even leaked his findings to the media, yet the Government took no action against his ‘gross misconduct’, Dixit said.
