The Delhi Police might have to wait a little more to lay their hands on Abu Salem.
A Mumbai court has deferred the hearing of an appeal till March 2, which means that Salem will come to Delhi only after that.
"We have been trying to bring him to Delhi but the court deferred our appeal and told us that the decision will be taken only on March 2," said Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He said that a special team of lawyers and Special Cell officers were sent to bring Salem to Delhi under heavy security cover.
"Our personnel have been camping in the port city for the past few days ever since the Delhi court had asked us to produce him," Kumar added.
According to him, preparations for Salem's security and journey to Delhi have been completed.
"Security of Salem will be our top priority when he comes to Delhi," said Kumar. Salem is currently in the custody of the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Mumbai Police.
Salem is wanted in connection with three cases of extortion in the capital. He was brought to India from Portugal last year.
