The dharna was staged in response to a call by the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation and Water Works Employees’ Association.

Presiding over the dharna, employees’ association coordination committee president Kaushal Kumar Shukla blamed the State Government for neglecting their demands. The employees would intensify their agitation, if their demands were not met, he added. Association secretary Ravindra Kumar and vice-president Devanand Tripathi criticised the State Government for depriving the corporation employees of the benefits of the Fifth Pay Commission. They warned of an indefinite strike.

Employees’ leaders said the State Government had merged 50 per cent basic pay with the DA of State employees, but corporation employees had been denied the benefit.

They said they were in no mood to tolerate step-motherly treatment.
They accused the government of adopting a divide and rule policy.
SBI employees stage dharna

STATE BANK of India employees staged a dharna at the SBI main branch office in response to call by the All India State Bank Officers’ and Staff Federation.

Union leaders Hira Lal, OP Singh and others claimed that a proposal for ratification of retired bank employees’ pension scheme was pending. They said despite repeated reminders, the government had not taken note of the issue.

About 75,000 retired bank employees and their family members were subjected to harassment by the Union Government.

They also chartered out a plan to intensify their agitation. In first phase on March 27, all branches of the State Government will forward a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister and the Reserve Bank of India Governor. They will go on indefinite strike from April 3.
