The Daily Times quoted a government official as saying that during a meeting with Wolfensohn, Musharraf requested him to act quickly because India had increased the pace of dam construction on the Chenab river in Jammu in Kashmir.

The paper further reported that Wolfensohn gave the assurance of acting according to the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty 1960.

Pakistan had earlier approached the bank to intervene and help resolve the dispute with India after the two countries failed to arrive at consensus regarding the appointment of a neutral expert.

India claims the Baglihar project does not violate the treaty, while Pakistan charges India with huge violation of the provisions of the treaty saying that the dam will disrupt the flow of water into its territory.
