Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Bakr-id with traditional piety re-dedicating themselves to the supreme ideal of unflinching faith in Almighty and Islamic tenets of love and compassion.

Faithfuls turned up in large numbers at mosques and Id-gahs at across the state to offer the Id namaz, where religious scholars led the prayers and gave out the Id message of sense of sacrifice and devotion, as symbolised in the readiness shown by Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of total obedience to God.

In their Id addresses,Imams said extremist and fundamentalist trends posed a danger to humanity and urged the faithful to guard against them by upholding principles of love, compassion and kindness as preached by Islam.

In his Id message, Indian Union Muslim League supremo Panakkad Syid Hyderali Shihab Thangal said Id-ul-Azha was the most auspicious occasion that reminded humanity that the mercy and grace of God was the most precious gift in the universe and the source of all good things.

Kerala Governor R S Gavai, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and leaders of various political parties greeted the people on the occasion.
