A section of the media reported Jan 1 that the girl, born on Dec 6, had been named "Tsunami" during the naming ceremony that took place Dec 31 in a hospital in Alappuzha district.
"I was taken aback when people started to call me 'Tsunami's father' (on the basis of the newspaper reports)," said Kuttan from Valiyaazhickal of Alappuzha.
Contacted by IANS on telephone, Kuttan said: "Nothing as reported in the media is true. We named our daughter 'Nakshtra', not 'Tsunami'."
"We had a miraculous escape (when the disaster took place). My wife hung on to a doorframe for nearly half an hour until she was rescued," Kuttan said.
She has been readmitted to the hospital with the newborn to recover from the injuries caused by the waves. That is when, the media, for inexplicable reasons, reported that the baby girl had been named "Tsunami".
