"I was in a queue to catch a Goa-bound flight when I noticed my passport was missing," Fiona, who arrived in Goa on Saturday, told reporters in Panaji.

"Somebody could have recognised me and tried to create trouble for me by stealing my passport or it must have fallen off from my purse," she said, adding she immediately informed the airport manager in Mumbai and the authorities carried on a search for almost two hours.

Fiona said she would write to the British Consulate in Goa for a duplicate passport. She will leave for UK by May four when her visa expires.

Scarlett's bruised semi-nude corpse was found at Goa's popular beach of Anjuna on February 18. Two locals have already been arrested for their alleged involvement in the case.

Fiona had left for UK with Scarlett's body on March 30.
