Nephew of Akram Khan — the larger-than-life former national captain — 20-year-old Nafis Iqbal from Chittagong has already demonstrated that he has what it takes to become a superstar and beyond.

A young, crowd-pleasing opening batsman, Nafis shot to prominence in the second warm-up match of England’s inaugural tour in 2003/04. He notched up a majestic century against the full strength England team and then dismissed their spinners as "ordinary".

Had he not been about to lead Bangladesh’s under-19 team in Pakistan, he might have had the opportunity to expand on that statement in the subsequent Test series.

Instead, he waited for a late summons to the one-day squad, and made his debut in front of his home fans in Chittagong.

With the bat he is as much a versatile right hander as a devastating stroke maker. How far he can go on to climb up the ranks at the elite stage remains to be seen.
