An unspecified number of Naxalites attacked Tankuppa police outpost, about 40 km from the district headquarters, on Monday midnight and killed the three. They are also reported to have looted some firearms and ammunition, but the exact number was not immediately known.

While the ASI has been identified as Upendra Narayan Sinha, the names of the chowkidars have yet to be ascertained.

Another ASI, who was wounded in the attack, has been shifted to Gaya in a serious condition.

Gaya Superintendent of Police Amit Jain has rushed to the spot with reinforcements and raids were on continuing to apprehend the Naxalites, the sources added.
