About 200 armed naxalites killed five policemen and seriously injured three others before looting eight sophisticated weapons from the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police sources said on .
"Six sophisticated INSAS weapons and two .303 rifles were looted after 200 naxalites attacked a 20-member police party about five km from Bijapur district headquarters," the sources told PTI over phone.
The naxalites surrounded the 20-member party from all directions and opened indiscriminate firing, killing five policemen and seriously injuring three. The police party was on a road opening operation from Bijapur district headquarters, they said.
Meanwhile, 12 policemen, who had gone missing after the incident returned late yesterday and they are safe, the sources said.
The incident took place when a 20-member police party, with four district forces constables and 16 Special Police Officers (SPOs), was proceeding from Bijapur to Pallabaya on a road opening operation.
Of the three injured persons, two were shifted to Bastar divisioal headquarters Jagdalpur where as one airlifted to Raipur for further treatment, they added.
