"The commission has taken cognizance of our complaints and assured us that a detailed report on the issue has been sought from the concerned officials," NC President Omar Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar.

Abdullah, in a letter to Election Commission, had threatened to withdraw from the remaining phases of polls in Jammu and Kashmir if their complaints against People's Democratic Party president for alleged violation of election norms were not looked into.

Mehbooba, while making a tour of the polling stations in second round of polls in Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, had removed the veil of a woman alleging her to be a bogus voter.

The NC president said the party had been pushed to the wall as our complaints were being ignored, leading to the threat to withdraw from the polls.

Expressing full faith in the inquiry started by the commission, he said we will have to wait for the final report.

"We never demanded that the PDP president be held guilty. ... All we wanted was Election Commission look into the matter and say whether Mehbooba was right or wrong. If she was wrong what action would be taken against her," he said.

Abdullah said investigation by some journalists has revealed that the woman in question was a genuine voter.

On Mehbooba's challenge to Abdullah to prove that the woman was not a bogus voter, he said, "I don't have to respond to it. If she is a bogus voter, Mehbooba should take action against the newspapers."
