TO TACKLE the ever-growing menace of tricksters looting passengers on board the running trains after administering drug and poison-laced eatable items, the North Central Railway (NCR) is going to launch a special campaign soon to nab the culprits.

The North Central Railway has sought help from the Northern Railway in its special drive against these culprits. Besides, doctors of the Railway Department have been advised to provide medical aid to victims of poisoning on the priority basis. Moreover, co-operation of civil police and public will also be sought to make the drive a success.
Under the initiative, the officials will carry out an awareness campaign from October 16 to October 31 with the objective of created awareness among railway passengers regarding the rampant incidents of loot after being offered poisonous food by tricksters posing as fellow passengers.
Informing about the special campaign, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), NCR, SK Chaudhary, said, "The campaign will be conducted by different wings including Railway Protection Force (RPF) and NCR's commercial wing."
These departments will make the passengers aware about such incidents through public address systems besides pasting stickers and posters on coaches and at the stations warning common man to be alert and careful.
In addition to this, plans are afoot to also keep a tight vigil on railway stations and platforms. Members of these wings in civil dress will keep an eagle's eye on suspicious persons in a bid to identify and nab the culprits involved in such activity, he added.
"As we have observed that most of the tricksters prefer Patna-bound trains which starts from New Delhi to target people carrying cash and valuables back to their homes, the NCR will be sending the staff to New Delhi in order to carry out the work entrusted to them," Chaudhary added.
Since these incidents mostly occur in unreserved coaches, the vigilance will be intensified in these coaches, said Chaudhary, adding that the campaign will provide relief to common train travellers from the menace.
