NCR set to improve amenities

THE North Central Railway (NCR) has come up with various schemes for the upcoming financial year 2006-07 which will bring tremendous changes in the overall scenario as they are meant for the welfare of the passengers.

THE North Central Railway (NCR) has come up with various schemes for the upcoming financial year 2006-07 which will bring tremendous changes in the overall scenario as they are meant for the welfare of the passengers.

According to Public Relations Officer (PRO), NCR, RK Srivastava "A provision of Rs 4.30 crore has been made for improvement in unreserved ticket distribution system at big, medium and small size stations. Besides, there is also a provision of Rs 70 lakh to start computerised reservation system in the cities which lack this system, another Rs 90 lakh for e-working system and additional Rs 5 lakh for railway net system.

Interlocking system at 61 manned crossings, electrified boom at five places, setting up of barriers at 13 places and installation of warning instrument at 10 gates has been planned", said Srivastava. In order to upgrade the system of inquiry and announcement there is a proposal for an integrated computerised system to be installed at Allahabad, Kanpur, Mirzapur, Etawah, Agra, Mathura, Jhansi and Gwalior stations within next six months.

Besides, there was a scheme to construct a new building with a cost of Rs 80 lakh at Subedarganj in order to house the Railway Recruitment Board office, said the officer. Besides, there is also a scheme under which Rs 72 lakh has been earmarked for water supply at various railway stations, Rs 1 crore for tube-well at Tundla, Rs 19 lakh for overhead tanks of one lakh gallon capacity at Allahabad and Kanpur. Apart from this, there is a provision of expenditure of Rs 19 lakh on overhead tanks of 10,000 gallon capacity and three tube-wells at Allahabad and Kanpur, added Srivastava.
