NDA to address sick tea gardens issue: BJP
West Bengal BJP president Tathagata Roy on Friday said the NDA would take up the issue of sick tea gardens in Dooars of Jalpaiguri district "after returning to power".
West Bengal BJP president Tathagata Roy on Friday said the NDA would take up the issue of sick tea gardens in Dooars of Jalpaiguri district "after returning to power".
"The CPIM-led left front is responsible for the poor state of affairs in the tea plantations and the consequent misery of the plantation workers and we will surely address the problem after the elections," Roy told a public meeting at Kalchini in Alipurduar district.
Earlier at a press meet Roy alleged that supporters of ruling Left front constituent Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) severely thrashed BJP activist Sukur Ali at Kumar Ganj in South Dinajpur district on Thursday.
Ali had earned the wrath of the Left supporters as he joined the BJP recently, Roy alleged adding this incident reminded him about the "infamous Saibari incident in Bardhaman in early 70s when members of a family were butchered."
Referring to a report that the Bhutan government has decided to terminate the service of 1.12 lakh Indian nationals working in that country, Roy said BJP was for sorting out the issue with Bhutan so that interest of Indians was not harmed.
On the issue of return of Bangladeshi enclaves, within Indian territory, to the neighbouring country and return of Indian enclaves, falling within Bangladesh, to India, the senior BJP leader promised that if voted to power the NDA would take up the matter with Bangladesh.
He asserted BJP was for making distinction between intruders and refugees as per UN guidelines.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, who addressed the gathering as well, called upon tea garden workers to support the BJP candidate from Alipurduar Manoj Tigga.
