New SSP gets taste of police apathy
NEW SENIOR superintendent of police Dipesh Juneja got a bitter taste of police apathy at Gorakhnath police station on Tuesday night. He disguised himself as an applicant and reached the police station to lodge a complaint. For a few minutes, he had to bear with the abusive language of a head constable, who lay on a bed and watched a blue film.

For a few minutes, he had to bear with the abusive language of a head constable, who lay on a bed and watched a blue film.
Soon, the SSP’s patience ran out. He called the circle officer on a wireless set and asked him to reach the police station.
The circle officer reached the police station in a jiffy and conducted a surprise check, along with the SSP. Though there were no accused in the lock-up, the SSP expressed his displeasure over the insanitary conditions at the police station.
According to sources, the SSP reached Gorakhnath police station in plainclothes.
He alighted from his official car near the police station and entered the premises like an applicant. He enquired about the police station incharge, but the head constable rudely replied that the SO had gone to take food.
The head constable became angry, when the SSP enquired about the SO’s telephone number.
The head constable directed him to leave the police station and take the SO’s telephone number from the notice board , if he wanted to call him.
At this point, the SSP lost his patience and called the circle officer to the police station.
In meantime, the station officer reached the police station and apologised to the SSP, but the latter was in no mood to relent. He ordered stern action against the head constable.
As news of the inspection spread, the officials incharge reached their police stations and began an exercise to put their papers in order.
Earlier, the senior superintendent of police conducted a surprise check of security arrangements at nationalised banks on Monday and found that policemen deployed at these banks were absent from duty.
He expressed displeasure over it and punished the errant policemen.
